Annapolis to Miles River Race
It was a stunning day for sailing. Winds at the start were from WNW holding steady at 19-20 with gusts up to 25 knots. Unfortunately, these strong winds in Eastern Bay made for a challenging delivery Saturday morning to the course resulting in Cordellia being the only Herring Island Fleet boat to make it to the start. Most boats started with a jib reach and then popped their kites shortly thereafter. By the time most of the boats reached 84A the wind had turned such that kites were challenging to carry back up Eastern Bay, but it was still a nice reach. The kites came back out once the marks at Tilghman Point were cleared. Many boats finished the race in less than 3 hours. Nick Simpson in Cordellia takes the bullet for our fleet and also took second in his CRCA Cruiser class. Willem Roosenberg, our Head Herring, sailed on the J99, Lightfoot from TAYC and we were able to secure 3rd place in ORC 1. There was a great crowd and party at MRYC after the race that had a great buzz with the excellent sailing conditions.
